Il Padrino

Meaning ‘the Godfather’ in Italian, Il Padrino offers excellent service and tasty food. For example, affogato (RM35) was not on the menu but they managed to put an outstanding one together without fuss.

Il Padrino’s Gnocchi ai Quattro Formaggio (RM28) was top notch. The texture was spot-on with a cheese sauce that was complex and tasty. Starters of Prosciutto Crudo e Melon (RM35), Frittura di Calamari (RM24) and Bruschetta al Salmone (RM18) were very well done. The dishes were flavourful, and they could give others a lesson in producing wonderfully crispy calamari.

The Risotto Pancetta Saffron (RM36) also could have been a little more al dente but the profusion of bacon and saffron more than made up for it. The Pizza Il Padrino (RM32) had a soft and yeasty base, with generous toppings of more prosciutto, rocket and mozzarella buffalo.

Main course, Grigliata Mista di Mare (RM52) with parsley sauce was a mix of grilled fresh seafood. The grilled US scallops were the stand-outs, while the seabass tasted a little muddy. The Ossobucco Milanese (RM52) featured a huge portion of veal shank filled with marrow that was just heavenly.

Desserts of Panna Cotta (RM18) and Sfogliatine di Millefoglie (RM18) proved to be irresistible. The Panna Cotta‘s texture was near perfect while the millefoglie had plenty of excellent custard and crispy pastry.

The Torresella Merlot (RM19) should be avoided. Go instead for the Australian De Bortoli Cabernet Merlot (RM20) or Semillon Chardonnay (RM20), both outstanding values for house pours.
