Pinchos

Pinchos, a Catalan-influenced tapas bar, has a lively and homely atmosphere, amidst Iberian charm. The Paella Mixta (RM48) carries rich and robust flavours of pork, chicken and seafood. It is perhaps a little heavier and oilier than a truly authentic version, but locals will not complain about the generous amounts of seafood and meat together with a strong perfume of saffron.

For the tapas, amongst the best dishes were the Chicken and Pork Skewers (RM12) and Eggplant Tomato (RM9). Chicken and pork were brought together for a perfect marriage of succulence and flavour with an excellent smokiness from the grill. The eggplant came with a wonderful sauce full of garlic, perfect for mopping up with the crusty bread provided.

The Spanish Ham on Toast (RM19) is also a must-order for any tapas bar and you can always choose slices from the genuine leg of Jamon Iberico perched on the bar counter. The Chorizo Sausage Stew (RM14) and Albondigas (RM15) were solid items without being spectacular, while the Croquetas (RM14) were nice and crispy on the outside but slightly too runny in the middle.

Pinchos also provide an excellent choice of drinks. Sangria (RM18) was very decent – fruity and not too frugal with the wine. The Mojito (RM29) was very refreshing, coming in a tall glass for a change, something not many bars in the city seem to understand – that a mojito should be a long drink. The stock table wine, a medium-spice Caceres Rioja (RM22) was also a great all-rounder to go with their food.
