Chiaroscuro Trattoria Pizzeria

Chiaroscuro Trattoria Pizzeria, a new non-halal Italian restaurant tucked away on a quiet residential street behind Istana Hotel (where Le Table d’HÙte used to be), recently opened its doors to a hushed sort of fanfare. It’s run by the same team that used to operate Sassorosso on Jalan Kia Peng. Aside from promising a range of exciting, tasty and very authentic Italian dishes, the resturant is pushing its yummy pizzas. There’s currently a variety of 19 pizzas at the moment – from a simple Margherita at RM22 to the Ponte Parma, with lashings of air-dried ham, at RM34. In between are classics like the Quatro Stagioni (RM26) and the Diavola (RM24) and the not so familiar like Occhio de Bue (RM28), which is essentially bacon and eggs pizza. The non-pizza offerings include pastas, entrees and appetizers and desserts on offer and these will change weekly – something that will surely please finicky KL palates. The dÈcor is non-invasive, minimalist but welcoming. They also have a commendable wine and cocktail list to please the thirsty. Chiaruscuro, an Italian art term to describe the contrast between light and dark, promises to be a great choice for pizza, a glass of wine and a sultry KL evening.
