Delucca

Delucca benefits from an excellent space in One Residency. The open kitchen, set on a platform is a stage for the chefs to perform. The central bar and high ceiling are reminiscent of a swanky European bar. However, the stage it looks like it was built in half a day and covered in leftover felt.

It is the same with their dishes. The Vitello Tonnato (RM39) appetiser is served with slices of wonderful, succulent veal ham unceremoniously slathered with tuna mayonnaise. The Scallopina Bianco (RM48) is so thin you wonder where it is.

But the Souffle di Scampi (RM30) is excellent. The soft, savoury soufflé is a perfect vehicle for the wonderful seafood flavours. The Gnocchi Gorgonzola (RM34) has a good creamy sauce but the gnocchi itself could have been softer. A little extra potato could have elevated it from merely good.

Desserts were beyond reproach. The Tiramisu (RM17) is light and ethereal while the enormous Tartufo (RM17), a chocolate ice cream bombe, is decadent and almost impossible to finish.

The bottle of Placido Chianti (RM140) came strongly recommended. The fruity, easy red was an ideal choice for Delucca’s rustic and inventive dishes.

Opening an Italian restaurant is a brave move, especially with so many high-quality restaurants of the same already established in the neighbourhood. Though courage is no guarantee of success, it is a place to imagine yourself spending a long Sunday afternoon.
